About the Trip

You will be serving with the Cadaniño ministry.

The Cadaniño exists to serve the orphaned, vulnerable, and disabled. We work to accomplish this primarily through our community centers that provide services to vulnerable children and their families in their neighborhoods.

Trips typically last a week from Saturday to Saturday. We will pick you up and drop you off form the airport, take care of all lodging, meals logistics.

What Will You Be Doing

Home Visitation.
AM: Visit the homes of the families of the children we serve to deliver a blessing bag of food, read the Bible with them and pray for them.
PM: Activities: Vacation Bible School type format. We focus on building relationships over building walls. We will have translators so everyone can get involved. Teaching a Bible verse, participating in worship, praying with the kids, playing games and doing crafts.
PM: Classes: For those of you who have technical or a vocational skills, for example photography, handcrafts or sewing (whatever you can do), we will design some special opportunities for the children to learn those skills. If there are those of our group with the particular skills, we may be able to work with community adults to accomplish some more technical tasks such as electrical, plumbing or construction tasks needed at the centers. If you are skilled in anything you can teach to others, we want to take advantage of your knowledge and share it with these children or adults.

Focus

The Cadaniño ministry exists to serve the orphaned, vulnerable, and disabled. We target impact on their lives through the operation of community centers that provide services to needy people in their neighborhoods.

Programs

We want to do a few things but do them well. We work hard to stay faithful to our specific calling. Everything we do must fall under one of our existing programs of spiritual formation, educational reinforcement, and family strengthening.

Spiritual Formation

We have the expressed purpose to "go into all the world and preach the Gospel" and to lead people to be true followers and disciples of Christ. Our students receive three hours of Bible study a week to give them a solid foundation of God's word. We operate under the spiritual covering of our local church. We relate and apply the lessons to the realities in which our students live. We tailor the classes to be appropriate to the age and maturity of the students.

Educational Reinforcement

When we look at the brokenness among those we serve, we recognize they can't see the opportunities that lay before them. We go beyond teaching kids what to think, we teach them how to think, how to solve the problems they face.

Finishing high school makes a lasting difference in the earning potential of most people. In developing countries like Guatemala, especially amongst those we serve, doing so is a great struggle. By providing math, reading, and writing classes, we reinforce what they learn in school, which is what can make the difference between failing or passing a grade.

We emphasize computer technology. Computer literacy is a requirement for many jobs. Our programs go far beyond this. Students learn programming, coding, and advanced I.T. skills that will that will enable them to earn a competitive salary on a global level while working from Guatemala.

Family Strengthening

We provide services to families, many of which are on the brink of collapse and struggling to survive, to lay the groundwork for a brighter future. By meeting the children’s direct needs, we free up the parent's time for other tasks vital to the success of their family.

Relationships with the kids leads to relationships with the parents. Mission teams help us reach into people's lives through home visitations where we can talk, pray, and share about God in a deeper way.
