What we did this year in Guatemala

hat we did this year in our mission work in Guatemala. That makes 14 years serving the orphaned and vulnerable. Take a look at what was accomplished in 2016.

This has been an amazing year for us in our ministry in Guatemala!

The Orphanage Fundaninos

Worked with the Independence Committee to better prepare the children for life outside the orphanage

Worked with the Discipleship Committee at the home to pour into the children spiritually and started a discipleship group with the boys

Taught 180 woodworking, carpentry, engineering and culinary arts classes to the students

Held the first annual Vacation Bible Camp on Missional Living with two mission teams and volunteers from our local church in Guatemala

Taught financial literacy classes to the high school students

Started an entrepreneurial program with students to create and sell their own products

Students in our vocational training classes have earned over $1500 in our classes this year and deposited their savings in to their own bank accounts

Spent countless hours counseling students who have or are in the process of transitioning out of the orphanage

Got vacation jobs for 5 of the high school students at the orphanage

Took a former student into our home as she transitioned out of the orphanage

Community Center in Colonia Santa Fe

Revamped our classes in Colonia Santa to include more children from the local community

+60 children enrolled in our afternoon classes which provided: prayer, Bible study, computer training and tutoring

Installed internet access at the center so children can study using online learning tools

Celebrated classes for the year with a trip to the zoo and a closing ceremony that was attending by over 100 people from the community

Our teacher taught over 275 classes at the center

Cadanino, Ministry to the Disabled

Assisted with setting up a daycare for 25 residents from ABI, the government home for the profoundly disabled

Sourced furniture and appliances, installed a security system and safety equipment, helped remodel the facility to better serve the children

Assisted with transportation to events and activities

BAM, Business as Mission

Opened a small coffee shop kiosk to provide job training to students from our culinary arts program at the orphanage and provide employment to women in Guatemala

We have two students from the orphanage who are working there for the Christmas holidays

Other Ministry

Assisted six mission teams in ministry

Attended the Christian Alliance for Orphans conference to learn how to better serve the children in our care

Hosted a missionary intern who we hope will return and serve with us

Spent countless hours loving, caring and ministering to those in our car
