2015 Missionary Report From Guatemala

Taking on Bigger Roles and Expanding Our Reach

This year marked a period of incredible growth and impact for our mission in Guatemala. At the orphanage Fundaninos, we took on a more significant role, assisting with public relations, fund-raising, strategic planning, and the independence program. This vital initiative supports children transitioning from the orphanage, equipping them with the skills and resources needed for independent living.

Empowering Through Education

Education remained at the heart of our mission. We, our teachers, and dedicated volunteers taught over 650 classes covering subjects such as computer skills, woodworking, engineering, culinary arts, and primary education. These classes were held in various orphanages and schools, providing invaluable skills and knowledge to countless students.

We launched a new engineering class at Fundaninos, offering weekly sessions that sparked creativity and problem-solving skills. We also started a cooking club at Fundaninos, teaching culinary arts to eager young chefs. We revamped our programs at the Precious Moments School and Orphanage to include afternoon tutoring and computer classes, ensuring comprehensive educational support.

Spiritual Growth and Outreach

Our commitment to spiritual education was unwavering. We held over 50 Bible classes during youth group meetings in our home, as well as in schools and orphanages. These classes nurtured the spiritual growth of the youth, guiding them in their faith journeys. We distributed Bibles to 225 students, bringing the Word of God into their lives.

Technological Advancements and Vision Care

Technology played a crucial role in our educational efforts. We set up three dozen computers with educational software for schools and orphanages around Guatemala, enhancing learning opportunities for many children. In partnership with a fellow missionary, we held vision clinics, providing hundreds of glasses to those in need and significantly improving their quality of life.

Community and Mission Team Support

Our collaboration with seven mission teams throughout the year amplified our impact. We worked hand-in-hand with our local church to remodel a classroom at a rural school, creating a better learning environment for the students. We were also honored to share our mission work on a Christian TV station, spreading awareness about our efforts in Guatemala.

Supporting Independence and New Beginnings

A highlight of the year was assisting several students from Fundaninos as they transitioned to life outside the orphanage. We helped them find jobs and secure housing and provided coaching as they embarked on their new journeys. Additionally, we supported an engineering shopbot CNC design camp at an orphanage, fostering technical skills and innovation.

Vacation Bible School and Unwavering Dedication

We initiated a regular Vacation Bible School (VBS) program at the Precious Moments School & Orphanage with enthusiastic volunteers from our local church. This program brought joy, learning, and spiritual enrichment to the children. Our mission extended beyond structured programs. We spent countless hours loving, caring for, and ministering to those in our care, embodying the spirit of compassion and service.

Reflecting on a Year of Achievements

As we look back on 2015, we are filled with gratitude for the progress and achievements made possible through God's guidance, the support of our partners, and the work of our dedicated team and volunteers. Our work in Guatemala continues to transform lives, build futures, and spread the message of love and hope. We remain committed to this mission and are excited for the opportunities and challenges that the coming year will bring.
